Calgary police seize $169,000 worth of guns and drugs, two people face 33 charges

Police have seized drugs, firearms, and other contraband worth upwards of $169,000 in the NE area of Calgary. Two people face a combined 33 charges in connection with the seizure.
Darcey Garnet Zelmer, 37, and Natalya Ann Niles, 22, were under investigation after police discovered them in June living in various hotels and houses throughout Calgary.
At the time, they were were suspected of trafficking drugs. Police searched a storage locker, a vehicle, and a hotel room over the course of two months.
CPS seized a 12-gauge shotgun, a SKS riffle, a .22 riffle, crossbows, knives, ammunition, cutting agents, scales, various stolen property, stolen drivers’ licenses, and other stolen identification, along with over 1 kilogram of methamphetamine, and around 470 grams of fentanyl.
“Multiple resources from within the Calgary Police Service came together to address a significant public safety concern by successfully removing drugs and weapons from our streets,” Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm of the Calgary Police Service General Investigations Unit said.
Zelmer faces the following charges:
- Five counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order
- 14 counts of break of a release order
- Two counts of possession of a firearm with ammunition
- Four counts of possession of a firearm without a license
- One count of hazardous storage of a firearm
- Two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of proceeds obtained by crime
Niles has been charged with two counts of breaking a release order and two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Zelmer remains in custody and will next appear in court on Aug. 12, while Niles is set to appear in court today on Aug. 8.
