Man wanted in NW Calgary arson, extortion arrested by police

Calgary Police have arrested a 21-year-old who was wanted in connection with a series of arson and extortion cases.

Calgary police say the man suspected of threatening his neighbours in the northwest with arson and extortion has been arrested.

Twenty-one-year-old Finbar Hughes is accused of setting fire to a home in Hillhurst last month in an attempt to extort bitcoin from his victims.



He is facing several charges, including causing damage by fire to a dwelling, extortion, and possession of an incendiary material to commit arson.

The property was left with minor damage and no injuries were reported.
