90-year-old man struck by vehicle while on mobility scooter dies: Calgary police

Calgary police are investigating after a man in his 90s on a mobility scooter died after being hit by a truck in the city’s SW.

A 90-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle while riding a mobility scooter in southwest Calgary in late January has died, police said Tuesday.

Officers said he died on Monday, Feb. 9 — the first fatal collision in Calgary involving a pedestrian this year.

The incident happened on Jan. 28 in the southwest community of Upper Mount Royal when the victim was crossing Colborne Crescent in an unmarked crosswalk at around 1:30 p.m.

At the same time, a Ford F-150 driven by a man in his 80s was heading south on 14 Street SW, turning left onto Colborne Crescent, when it struck the man and threw him from his mobility scooter. He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Ford driver remained on scene and wasn’t hurt. Speed and alcohol weren’t considered factors.

There have been three fatalities due to vehicle collisions so far in 2026.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
