Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) has put out an online survey, looking to the fans for input on how they can improve customer experience for the new Scotia Place arena.

The Calgary Flames and the ‘C of Red’ have one more hockey season in the iconic Saddledome before eventually moving a block north to Scotia Place, which is currently being built.

But before everything is said and done, what do longtime fans want at Scotia Place?

“Practically live at the dome, I go to every season I can get, if it’s a cheap ticket or anything I can get, I’m there,” Derek Cornelius told CityNews.

Cornelius says he’s been to the dome more than 100 times since he moved to town a few years ago, and says he’s very sad to see the historic building go. However, that doesn’t mean he thinks the dome is perfect.

“Waiting in line for the washrooms can be one of the worst things when you want to get back to the action,” he said. “So just having bigger washrooms and less waiting for stuff like that is probably the key for all fans.”

He adds that it’s especially difficult during intermissions, as lines for the bathrooms often spill out into the concourse, making it difficult to navigate. A sentiment echoed by a Calgary Roughnecks fan.

“Moving around in the Saddledome in between periods in hockey or intermissions of the Roughnecks, it’s so congested, and ugly, like everything’s so old, concrete,” Darren Lyall said

He says that above all, he’s most excited for the opportunity to have more concerts in Calgary. But adds that bigger, better bathrooms, and increased concessions would also be great, similar to what Danielle Gurr said, who’s all in on more food options.

“I know they have some restaurants in there, but if they had more of an area for that, or like a food court, something like that, I think it would be good,” she explained.

One man simply wants more signage in the building.

“Since these buildings are very big, sometimes they are hard to find the washrooms. I know there are a lot of washrooms, but sometimes they are hard to find,” Bhupinder Thind said.

Scotia Place is being built just north of the Saddledome and is scheduled to open in September 2027. It is expected to host Calgary’s games during the 2028 World Cup of Hockey, which the city will co‑host with Edmonton and Prague.
