NEW MEXICO (660 NEWS) – A photo of an abandoned car from Alberta in a New Mexico parking lot is trending on the r/Alberta subreddit.
Reddit user, bigjimnm, posted the photo of the Nissan Murano with Alberta plates, asking “Anybody know about this car? It’s been parked at the grocery store in Los Alamos, NM, USA for at least 6 months.”
The Los Alamos Police Department has confirmed to 660 NEWS it was first notified of the vehicle in September 2019.
“It appears we had been called to the Smith’s Marketplace sometime in the last couple of months to investigate a Nissan vehicle with Alberta plates,” Los Alamos Police Department Commander Oliver Morris said.
“At that point, we didn’t identify a driver, however, there was no indication there was a criminal issue.”
He said the police department informed Smith’s Marketplace it would be treated as a civil matter, and the store would have to contact someone to tow the vehicle at its own expense.
Comdr. Morris explained he received another inquiry into the vehicle on Wednesday and has since run the plates through several U.S. databases.
“Nothing has come up, as far as a missing person report or a stolen vehicle,” he said.
“We did identify the male owner as someone who did have an address here in Los Alamos, we are sending an officer over there to see if that person still resides there.”
The vehicle has plate holders from Stadium Nissan — a Calgary based car dealership — and the plate tags appear to have expired in 2018.
“The subject does not reside at the address in Los Alamos any more,” Morris told 660 NEWS Thursday. “We have no further information but we will send information to Canadian Authorities.”
